Academy of Fine Arts stands first in Indonesia

December 15, 1949, Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts (abbreviated ASRI) was established that the opening should be conducted on January 15, 1950. Rush is apparently motivated by the desire for the academy was founded when Yogyakarta was the capital of the State. As known, dated December 27, 1949, twelve days after the decision letter, the recognition of the sovereignty of the Republic of Indonesia signed by Queen Juliana and with it stands the Republic of Indonesia (RIS) by Jakarta as its capital.

On Sunday, January 15, 1950 at 10:00 am Indonesian Academy of Fine Arts inaugurated its establishment in Ward Kepatihan Yogyakarta with RJ Katamsi Martorahardjo (7 January 1897-2 May 1973) as the first director (and founder), with some parts of art education such as Painting, Sculpture, Carpentry, and Advertising. Advertising Programs – which is the origin of graphic design education – while it is still the one with the Department of Decoration, Illustration and Graphics and called the Department of 4 (four) or REDIG. One of the students at the beginning of this department is Soetopo Mangkoediredjo graduated in 1955. Including the founder of ASRI is Hendra, Kusnadi, Sudarso and Trubus while Affandi ever recorded as one of the instructors at this college.
