Hierarchy in Design

July 22nd, 2010 by Novi | Posted under Article.

Have you read a book, publications, posters, brochures or other design media, then you become dizzy?

Could be because the design of these publications do not pay attention to the problem of hierarchy. All information to be conveyed to the reader. Usually this is seen in the use of large fonts, bold, but unfortunately the same size. So that we become confused, where you’ll enjoy the information.

Designers Challenge

Graphic designers challenge is to make the design which becomes a communicative as possible. Readers should be inviting to see the first time on the most important information, then the second, third, and so on. The designers must have the perception that readers have limitations in attention and did not have much time.

Therefore, before the step of making the design, it helps designers understand the first content will be made. In order to design the reading sequence by readers will be accurate and suitable targets.

Not Just Interesting

One fault with the graphic designer is to make the designer as possible but forgetting the problems of communication. Readers interested in the game made the color, the modification of illustrations, etc., but they’re hard to find the main purpose of the design. In the end it makes the ineffectiveness of design.

Some Means to Strengthen Hierarchy

Color
Play of color, for example between the major titles, subtitles, can determine which primary or secondary.

Font Type
The selection of different fonts between the main and support can make the reader found it easily.

Font Size
It’s good we choose a different large letters between several different content in the design.

Use of Artistic Illustration
Either we add a box hatched with subtle color to emphasize an information that should be seen first time by the audience.

Attention
All the above facilities must be used consistently, especially if we have to make design the sort of book or product catalog. Hierarchy of use of facilities makes the reader confused. For example, if for a product name used dark blue, then so should use the color.
